CANCELLED: 20 Years First Steps & DFFB: Film Matters!

Due to the current situation in connection with the corona virus, we have decided, together with the Deutsche Filmakademie and First Steps, to cancel the event.

We would like to deal with the situation responsibly and contribute to contain the spread of the virus and protect endangered risk groups.

We are very pleased about the great popularity of the event, but at this point we ask for your understanding for the decision, which was made after careful consideration.

At the closing event for the 20th anniversary of the German Young Talent Award FIRST STEPS, three DFFB graduates at the beginning of their professional careers will reflect on their experiences and strategies, wishes and demands: How do they succeed in finding and asserting their own ideas during their studies and afterwards? Why and about what do we want and will we make films?

The filmmakers each represent different, very individual attitudes, cinematic worlds and artistic self-understandings:

  • Julia Langhof, director of LOMO — THE LANGUAGE OF MANY OTHERS (2017)
  • Lukas Feigelfeld, director of HAGAZUSSA (2018)
  • Agnesh Pakozdi, cinematographer of DAS MELANCHOLISCHE MÄDCHEN (2019)

The interview will be conducted by Ulrich Matthes, President of the German Film Academy. The evening will be opened by Dr. Rainer Rother as host and Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kinemathek, which makes the cinematic heritage of the DFFB — and thus the tradition of the own and the obstinate, accessible to the public. In addition, the Deutsche Kinemathek will be showing excerpts from the current graduation films of the panelists.

The discussion will take place on the 4th floor of the Filmhaus at Potsdamer Platz. The event is open to all film enthusiasts and admission is free.
