The DFFB was found­ed in 1966 as a non-prof­it GmbH. It is exclu­sive­ly owned by the Berlin gov­ern­ment, from which it receives insti­tu­tion­al fund­ing for its aca­d­e­m­ic activ­i­ties.

The DFFB was founded in 1966 as a non-profit GmbH. It is exclusively owned by the Berlin government, from which it receives institutional funding for its academic activities.

The DFFB trains students in the following specialisations: Directing, Cinematography, Producing, Screenwriting, and Editing & Sound. Students are awarded a certificate of completion upon graduation.

The DFFB's study programmes (and their entrance requirements) are comparable to the fine arts or arts and sciences programmes of German state universities. The DFFB does not offer bachelor's or master's degrees.

The curriculum is structured according to academic regulations.

The DFFB has a student council, which is composed of students from all academic years.

Wolf Plesmann is the managing director of the DFFB.
