The Isle

Tsvetana's (57) daily routine consists of her work as a teacher of art history and caring for her mother Penka (80) who was also once a teacher and now suffers from dementia. As summer comes to an end and winter approaches, their mutual dependence on one another begins to change: Penka gradually breaks away from her daughter, even if this happens almost imperceptible. The daughter continues running the household as usual, seemingly not aware of her mother silently bidding farewell. “Ostrovcheto” is a film about the humility and the dignity of the human soul – that is: about love.

Contact

After a day on a lake, Philip parts with his friends and races on a lonely forest road, running over a cyclist on the way. He wants to leave her behind, but ends up driving her to the hospital. Feelings of guilt and shame about his half- hit and run, develop into a desire to be close to this attractive older woman. As this desire can not be fullfilled by the woman, he is drawn back to the site of the accident - the origin of the feeling that engrossed him so much. Much more then the topic of guilt, I am interested in the moment of getting in contact with a new kind of emotion. Philip isn´t able to cope with the accident and its consequences in a rational way. As much as this harasses him, it´s also fascinating him. His desperate attempt to get grip of this emotion shows his deep desire for contact.

Pfad/ Vorgarten/ Kollaps/ Stille/

What the world will look like by 2050? What will be the next steps in an eco-friendly future? While politicians are engaged on two fronts in a half-hearted war on climate change and the disappearance of natural resources, we have already entered a period in which we are confronted with the very circumstances that we are still trying to prevent. What will happen after a complete collapse? The central point of the piece is to illustrate the loss of the alliance between nature and man and the resulting climate change.
