Maybe forever

Surja has to force him, otherwise Sid wouldn’t climb the rusty gate with his elegant jacket. She’s very curious and wants to take pictures... Big heights, tumbling stones and a roof truss gutted by fire – there are many reasons for Sid to not enter the industrial ruin. But he can’t refuse Surja. The reward is a mesmerizing sunset. It will be their last and at the same time first one together. There is just one thing that’s for sure: Sid will never forget Surja.

Tired

Jannes Voss is in his early thirties. He does his best to keep his life somewhat organized. Fascinated with horse races, he spends a lot of time at the betting office. The speed, the rhythm of the horses, the stomping and snorting let him plunge into a different world. The betting office is his refuge, the races structure his time. The structure shatters when he receives a call from his father. His mother passed away. Jannes visits his father, whom he hasn’t seen nor heard in years. He leaves his trusted surroundings to find himself confronted with his father, his dead mother, the mourning, the impossibilities and a stranger. Jannes keeps on returning to the betting office – not knowing how to feel, not sure he can tell apart his sadness from his immense tiredness.

Devil Hides in Doubt

There is Franz, suing the company that has made him redundant after 40 years. Then, for nine months, he holds out in an empty office with nothing to do. There is Stephan who, for eight days and nights, sits on a chair that is part of a giant billboard. Selling yourself is sometimes the quickest way to pay your debts. There is Saskia, the high school graduate, learning how to put together the perfect application. There is Gunnar who is being taught that perceiving your own body as trademark is the key to success. Franz finally wins his lawsuit only to realise he has lost all the same. DEVIL HIDES IN DOUBT is a film about the emotional push and pull of work, its demands and absurdities, and the struggle for fulfilment.
