THE CALL
THE CALL transfers Jean Cocteau's stage play “La Voix humaine” into the
present day and poses the question of why we still often derive our self-worth from the success of relationships in a painfully intense way.
Clara, on the phone with her ex-partner Ari, struggles with tormenting
suicidal fantasies. She knows that it hasn't been about him for a long
time. But why can't she find a way out of the crisis? Clara's nightmarish
journey leads through images full of dramatic lighting effects, surreal
musical passages and moments of bitter humor. Finally, a quiet moment of
female solidarity shows the way out: in the bathroom mirror, she meets the
protagonist from Cocteau's original and together they achieve what was
impossible for 100 years: they hang up.
