The Silence between two Songs

The siblings Laura and Lucas live in Berlin. The two are set to go back to Lisbon together soon, to their hometown. But despite the extreme closeness and dependency between them, something seems to be making Lucas hesitate to keep his promise to his younger sister Laura. Something in their enigmatic relationship threatens to sunder. Laura and Lucas live temporarily in Berlin and are set to go back to Lisbon together soon. I guess this is how I think about myself too. That I will go back to Lisbon soon. But I often find myself doubting it and becoming a kind of split self. Because now with this crisis and the very controversial austerity IMF program running in Portugal I found most of my friends leaving Lisbon; and family about to mortgage their homes. I wanted to talk about this feeling of separation that I see in my generation, about this state of being in between an apparent solid past and an unknown future, about this identity in transition. I was concerned with the feelings of anguish and melancholy associated with this process of transition. I am far away from a lot of those I love because I made the choice of living in Germany to search for an ideal. I think this economic crisis is also crisis of ideals and affections. Laura longs for a sense of home and seeks to protect the sibling's intertwined identities. As that idealized place erodes, Laura wakes up at the threshold of emancipation. “THE SILENCE BETWEEN TWO SONGS” is a short film about the relationship of two siblings, whose states of mind tremble in between two states.
