Wigald
„This life is just a test! If it wasn’t a test we would have been given further instructions on what
to do an where to go.”
This short film by newcomer Timon Modersohn, depicts the desperation of a young man,
Wigald, who only has one last wish – suicide.
Wigald is the epitome of a starving poet, whose lack of income to support his passion for verse
and general frustration with the world has left him struggling with his inner demons.
This film witnesses a succession of attempts to end his life, comically to no avail.
As we watch Wigald’s supposedly foolproof suicide attempt, we meet his father who walks in on
the operation. However, his father is so wrapped up in his own problems, the main issue being
Wigald’s mother wanting to leave him for her golf coach, that he fails to register what he’s interrupted
and instead seeks sympathy from his bewildered son!
Completely oblivious to Wigald’s current emotional state, he tries to rectify the lost years of
communication with his son over a solitary beer.
It is during one of his fathers monotonous monologues that we see Wigald collapse.
Sadly enough though, even the sight of their only son, fighting for his life is not enough to stop the
snide comments and venomous finger pointing of the parents.
As parents, they failed to see their unhappiness with each other had lead to the destruction
of Wigald’s soul.
